Basin & Grange

Basin & Grange is a five-piece acoustic band that embodies traditional bluegrass and old-time melodies while also embracing a creative spirit that takes the band’s music in new directions. This combination of innovation and conservation inspires the band's name. "Basin and Grange" evokes the vast and beautiful region of the American West (the Basin & Range), home to the band, and a symbol of exploration and freedom. "Range" is playfully adapted to "Grange", calling to mind the country roots of this group's music.

Basin & Grange won 1st Place in the Durango Meltdown's inaugural band competition in 2022 with a song selection featuring the band's tight vocal harmonies and original song compositions. In 2023 Basin & Grange performed as a main band in the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown. Other past bookings include the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association's local concert series, Murray's acoustic concert series, Summit County Fair, and other events in the Salt Lake City area.

Standards & Substandards

Standards & Substandards is the easygoing quartet made up of Caryn Crowley (vocals/diva), Tim Herzog (bass), Matt Johnson (drums), and Adam Johnston (piano). With roots in jazz traditions and branches reaching out to everything else, we expand the American songbook to include not only “standards” but also our jazz-esque interpretations of contemporary and classic songs from The Beatles to Beyonce. We’ll just as happily perform an upbeat vocal arrangement from the Gershwin brothers as a bluesy torch song from Nina Simone; and we’ll gleefully blur traditions of funk, pop, rock, and blues as the spirit moves us. Basically, we just like playing music as we reimagine it, celebrated with charismatic and powerful vocals backed by playful instrumentalists.

Standards & Substandards can be found playing stages, lounges, weddings, and backyards throughout Northern Utah. We’ve been happy to support fundraising performances for the Ogden Nature Center and the Children’s Justice Center, and we’re delighted to be able to play celebratory scenes ranging from the lounge of the Grand America to the late night vibe of Ogden’s Lighthouse Lounge to all-age inclusive settings like Jazz at the Station, Gandy Dancer, and the Kenley Amphitheater, among many others. For more information about the band, our recordings, future gigs, or booking, find us at https://substandards.band.
